The Banana Tree Project was established in November 2006 with the aim of helping orphans and former street children in Mwanza, Tanzania to get into school. It was registered with the England and Wales Charity Commission. The charity closed in 2019 having achieved its goal of supporting hundreds of children to access education. Many children received basic resources to allow them to attend primary school. Some were supported through secondary school with tuition fees, school meals and school resources. Over twenty young people were supported through vocational or tertiary courses that led to professional qualifications or degrees providing direct links to the work place.

Funding largely came from individual donations and school charity fundraising. The Banana Tree Project paid no salaries and had no running costs. Every penny donated was spent directly on the children. We are extremely grateful to all those who donated to the Banana Tree Project over the years and supported its work. Hundreds of under-privileged children gained a stronger start in life as a direct result of this support. On their behalf - thank you.
